my guess with the resources is that they are meant to be a bit 'redundant' in case of more time-sensitive missions, so that you don't have to pick every-single-nugget to be able to afford upgrading your army 'Disciples' series has got a single creature/multiple upgrades system I really like these games and I'm glad to see another one taking similar approach, since it nicely fits the game mechanics (starting each mission almost from point zero) I agree visual upgrades would be most welcome, but I guess these will come later in the development - for now we're checking mostly the playability/balance

So you don't have endless time to just wander around and have to balance between what you want and what you can do (same like every time-sensitive mission, though this element doesn't make you lose instantly). Well, I'm afraid the food system is part of the challenge/rougelite element - I don't like it too (I don't like rougelikes/lites in general, but that just gives me a push to get every mission 100% at the first try xD ), but that's what sometimes make you move your butt faster and carefully plan your actions.
